Analysis of the Longitudinal Effects of Resilience on School Dropout Adolescents: MLGM Approach with Sex Classification

Abstract
This study was conducted to estimate the longitudinal relations between school dropout adolescents' risk (depression) and protective factors (parent attachment and peer attachment) on resilience by using the school dropout youth panel data (2013-2017). A multivariate latent growth model (MLGM) with sex classification was used with the aim of suggesting a practical intervention plan that can improve adolescent resilience. The study shows parental and peer attachments had positive or negative mediating effects on the effect of risk factor on resilience. More specifically, the parental attachment intercept had a positive mediating effect on the negative effect of the depression intercept on the resilience intercept, whereas the peer attachment intercept had a negative mediating effect. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt measures to reduce the negative effects of risk factors by reducing the temporal change of depression, increasing parental attachment, which has a positive effect on resilience, and improving the relationship of peer attachment, which has a negative effect, in order to have a positive effect. The results of this MLGM study could be used as a basis for producing career development models for adolescents at risk in the educational field and for establishing intervention plans targeting resilience development.
